Nora asked me to write a guest blog! I meant to get to it sometime last night, but couldn't because of one domestic disaster after another! Water got shut off due to road construction! dogs had fleas! It was all I could do to longingly reach towards the laptop! (Can you tell that I have an inappropriate, or appropriate depending on the situation, flair for the dramatic? good thing I'm in theatre!!!)
Anyways, Tuesday Nora, Karen and I hopped up to the awesome neighborhood of Devon and California! I saw many many MANY inspiring things in so far as costuming, however, a good number of the sari shops were closed! I don't know why, but they were. Some of the saris we saw were for weddings and they seriously were some of the most beautiful pieces of clothing I've ever seen.
However, the one store that WAS open had some lovely things. I may even go back there for non play purposes just to buy fabric for me to make skirts!
We found an amazing fabric in their "used and bruised" section that I'm hoping to use for the character of Celia- its a COMPLETELY "girly girl" type of fabric. I'm planning on splitting it, using some for a skirt and then more for a sari like drape so she can change in and out of it quickly.
In another store down the street, we found a top that is perfect for Rosalind as "Ganameyde". I love it because it is masculine but it's got just that hint of feminity..... Hopefully the actress who plays her will fit into it! if not, I have a few tricks up my sleeve!!!
So what do you guys think?
