Rehearsals are going well! We have a cast of about 25 people. There are seven leading roles and a whole bunch of strong supporting and comedic roles. A Midsummer Night's Dream has four stories that intertwine with eachother to make one amusing, complicated play. Fortunately, each story's characters stay withing their own group (for the most part) so I don't have to have the full cast at every rehearsal. I meet with each group individually at least once during the week and then on Monday nights I get the whole cast together and we play theater games and laugh and act silly for an hour and a half.
I think it is really important to have the whole cast know eachother and be able to read eachothers cues because we are using promenade staging instead of a more traditional method of staging plays. The audience is going to be around them all the time, seeing the show from every angle. A significant part of the production will be working with and around the audience members and working together to make sure they can be where the need to be, when then need to be for the story to continue. And though the story and the lines will be the same every show, each show will be unique because the audience (and their reactions and interactions) will be different every night.
In other news...... we got our permit!!!! Soon we will be moving in to our Geneva location!
As a side note, I would like to thank Sara Townsend and the city of Aurora for providing us with a wonderful rehearsal space these past few weeks.
Thank you for reading my blog, there is more to come! Please leave a comment (even just saying "Hi!") and let me know you were here!
